Vertical Horizon Brings Enduring Melodic Rock to Innings Festival 2026
As the temperature continued to climb under the bright Arizona sun at Tempe Beach Park, Vertical Horizon showed exactly why their polished alternative rock sound continues to resonate in today’s music scene. With Matt Scannell’s expressive vocals and guitar leading the way, the band’s 2:30 p.m. set on Saturday, February 21, turned an afternoon slot into a heartfelt sing-along, mixing radio classics with fresh energy that felt both nostalgic and immediate.

Formed in 1991 in Washington, D.C., by Georgetown University students, Vertical Horizon has been active for more than three decades. Fronted by singer-songwriter Matt Scannell, the group broke through with their 1999 double-platinum album Everything You Want, whose title track topped the Billboard Hot 100.

Signature songs such as “You’re a God” and “Best I Ever Had (Grey Sky Morning)” followed, while later releases like Burning the Days (2009) and The Lost Mile (2018) kept their melodic style evolving. The band has built a steady reputation through consistent touring and festival appearances over the years.
