Beck: The Cosmic Closer

By on March 6, 2025

Finally, at 8:15 PM, Beck claimed the Home Plate Stage, a chameleon of sound headlining Day 2. Born in LA, Beck Hansen’s career spans folk, funk, and alt-rock, his 1996 album Odelay a genre-bending masterpiece.

He’s famous for “Loser,” the slacker anthem that launched him into the stratosphere.

Beck sauntered out, all loose limbs and cool, kicking off with “Devils Haircut,” its funky riff igniting the night. “Loser” was a chaotic singalong, the crowd shouting “soy un perdedor” into the dark, while “Where It’s At” grooved with turntable scratches. His 90-minute set wove through “Girl,” “Dreams,” and a sprawling “Debra,” ending with fireworks bursting overhead. Beck was the desert’s own Pied Piper, leading Tempe into a kaleidoscopic dreamscape.

The Final Chord

As Beck’s last notes dissolved into the night, the crowd lingered, buzzing with the day’s echoes. Day 2 of Innings Festival 2025 had unfurled like a tapestry—Anna Graves’ soft dawn, Good Boy Daisy’s fiery spark, Grace Bowers’ youthful thunder, Jack’s Mannequin’s nostalgic pull, Gary Clark Jr.’s electric soul, The Kills’ shadowy edge, Boyz II Men’s warm glow, and Beck’s cosmic capstone. Tempe Beach Park had become a cathedral of sound, each artist a thread in a story that stretched from noon to midnight, leaving the desert ringing with music and memory.
