Boundless Bounce: Remi Wolf’s Joyful Whirlwind at the Minnesota Yacht Club Festival
It’s the magical dusk hour on July 19, 2025, and Harriet Island is alive with that golden festival glow—the Mississippi catching the last rays like a mirror to the madness unfolding. The Minnesota Yacht Club Festival’s second day has folks from all walks spilling onto the grass, coolers cracked, kids on shoulders, everyone tuned to the Crow’s Nest Stage where Remi Wolf is about to unleash her particular brand of chaos. As the clock nears 7:45 p.m., she bursts onstage like a confetti cannon, all wild curls and wider grin, and from the jump, it’s clear: this is a very energetic, joyful performer, always moving, covering the whole stage skipping, hopping, dancing. Her band’s locked in behind her—horns tooting, keys twinkling—and Remi’s a human exclamation point, darting left to right, pulling the crowd into her orbit with sheer, unfiltered glee.

They kick off with “Cinderella,” that funky strut from her latest, Remi’s voice a velvet growl over the groove, hips swaying as she beckons us closer. “Pitiful” follows, all sassy swing, her skips turning to full-on prances, the field starting to pulse. Then, the third song: “Hello Hello Hello,” and oh, I liked it—she’s trying to engage and pump up the audience, leaning into the mic with calls and echoes, hands waving us to join the chant. The energy flips electric; strangers shout back, a ripple of hops spreading through the crowd like wildfire. As it wraps, she doesn’t pause for breath—instead, she shows her comedic side, engaging all with some crazy exercises/dances. “Alright, everyone—arm circles like you’re stirring a giant pot of soup!” she hollers, demonstrating with exaggerated flair, then drops into squats and spins that have us laughing and mimicking, the whole park turning into one big, goofy gym class. It’s pure, unscripted fun, breaking down any walls between stage and sea of faces.

The set surges on: “Liz” brings a disco pulse, Remi hopping mid-verse, while “Kangaroo” bounces with her boundless leaps. At one point, in a blur of mischief, she takes the drummer’s place and plays a decent drum solo—sticks flying, rhythm solid, her grin triumphant as the band vamps behind. It’s that kind of fearless play that makes her shine. “Sexy Villain” struts sultry, then “Michael” adds a tender twist amid the whirl. But I also liked Remi’s performance of Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams”—she owns it, voice dreamy over the smooth keys, a brief hush falling before the cheers crash back, her dance softening to a sway that pulls heartstrings. They close with “Liquor,” horns blasting as she skips offstage one last time, leaving the air thick with sweat and smiles. Rain might loom for the headliners, but Remi’s hour was a sunburst—joyful, exhausting, exactly what a festival needs.
Remi Francis Wolf was born February 2, 1996, in Palo Alto, California, to a Sicilian mother and Russian-Persian father. Music sparked early; by eight, she was singing in choirs and studying piano. As a high school senior, she auditioned for American Idol, making it to the Top 20 in 2014 before pursuing a musical theater degree at NYU Tisch. Post-grad, she dove into songwriting, self-releasing the EP You’re a Dog! in 2019, a quirky blend of funk, soul, and pop that caught fire. Island Records signed her, leading to the 2020 album I’m All Ears, with tracks like “Photo ID” and “Woo!” earning buzz for their bold hooks and vulnerability. She’s racked up over two billion streams, headlined Coachella, Lollapalooza, and Outside Lands, and opened for Harry Styles and SZA. Her 2024 sophomore Big Ideas pushed boundaries further, exploring love and chaos with eclectic flair. Notable songs include “Cinderella,” a viral hit; “Sexy Villain,” sassy standout; “Hello Hello Hello,” interactive anthem; “Liz,” disco delight; and her cover of “Dreams,” a dreamy Fleetwood Mac nod—tunes that mix humor, heart, and groove into something irresistibly her.
That Yacht Club evening, Remi Wolf didn’t just perform; she invited us to play, hopping through the haze like joy itself had legs. If you felt the pull of those crazy dances or that drum thump, you get it—her world’s a party worth crashing.
