The Black Keys: The Bluesy Swagger
The sun hung high over Tempe Beach Park, casting golden rays across the Rio Salado as the seventh annual Innings Festival kicked off on February 21, 2025. Baseball fans mingled with music lovers, the air thick with the scent of sunscreen and anticipation. Day 1 promised a lineup that stretched from scrappy newcomers to alt-rock titans, and as the gates swung open, the crowd poured in, ready for a sonic journey under the Arizona sky.

At 7:25 PM on Right Field, The Black Keys swaggered in, Dan Auerbach’s gritty voice and Patrick Carney’s thunderous drums filling the night. This Ohio duo turned garage blues into gold with Brothers (2010), and “Lonely Boy” remains their calling card—a riff-driven jolt that’s impossible to resist.

They hit the ground running with “Gold on the Ceiling,” the crowd pulsing to the beat. “Fever” brought a sultry edge, and “Lonely Boy” turned the park into a sea of jumping bodies. For 75 minutes, The Black Keys were pure, unfiltered rock ‘n’ roll, a gritty prelude to the headliner’s fireworks.

Approximated Setlist:
- “Gold on the Ceiling”
- “Fever”
- “Tighten Up”
- “Howlin’ for You”
- “Lonely Boy”
