Deer Tick Brings Raw Americana Heart to Innings Festival 2026

Under the bright Arizona sun at Tempe Beach Park, Deer Tick reminded everyone. because they’ve been around awhile, why their gritty blend of folk, rock, and Americana still feels so vital in today’s music scene. With John McCauley’s unmistakable voice leading the charge, the band turned their 1:40 p.m. slot on the Right Field Stage into an intimate, yet high-energy afternoon escape—proof that heartfelt songwriting and live chemistry never go out of style. Despite the rising heat in Tempe, it was enjoyable.

Formed in 2004 in Providence, Rhode Island, Deer Tick has spent more than two decades carving out a loyal following with their raw, rootsy sound. Fronted by singer-songwriter John Joseph McCauley, the group broke through with their 2009 album Born on Flag Day, which at the time,

Rolling Stone hailed as the year’s country-rock breakthrough. They’ve since released a string of acclaimed records, including Divine Providence (2011) and the double release Deer Tick Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 (2017), and most recently Emotional Contracts (2023). Along the way, they’ve shared stages at festivals like Newport Folk Festival and Cal Jam, and even appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman.
