Interview With The Vampire
Interview With The Vampire is getting a new millennium reboot. Director, Josh Boone revealed that he is working on Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment’s remake of Interview With The Vampire, which will be based on Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire (1976) and The Vampire Lestat (1985). It appears that director, Josh Boone already has Lestat chosen. He posted this image on his twitter feed May 4th.
Anne Rice said in 2009, “I am very hopeful that high quality films will be made in the future based on the Vampire Chronicles and books about the Mayfair Witches, and my agents are actively working on possible projects.”
Interview With The Vampire is the first novel in the Vampire chronicles by Anne Rice. It’s the story of a vampire’s unique recollections of love, betrayal, loneliness, and murderous hunger. It was adapted for the big screen in 1994 and starred the hottest actors of the time, Tom Cruise as the “Brat Prince” Lestat, and Brad Pitt as his companion Louis. This time, Josh Boone is picking musician, turned actor, Jared Leto to be this generation’s Lestat de Lioncourt.
It looks like fans of Anne Rice will get their wish. Let’s hope it’s not as disastrous as the first attempt to continue the Vampire Chronicles with the critically panned and fan rejected adaptation of Queen Of The Damned, starring Stuart Townsend as Lestat in 2002.
Can Jared Leto meet or beat Tom Cruise’s performance in this role? Only time and good editing will tell.
