Whats the Bible Scripture For Healing Oil?

Anointing CBD oil in Nevada is much more than a new, stylish kind of facial moisturizer! Here is a quick peek at the true meaning of anointing and anointing oils, and how they are used in the family of God.

What Does It Mean to be Anointed?

Before one can understand the symbolism of Biblical Anointing oils used for anointing they would have to first understand what it means to be anointed. Someone who is anointed has been set apart, made different from those around them in the eyes of God. Abba Anointing Oil had perhaps the best definition of what it truly means to be anointed on the web:

“To be “anointed” is, among other things, to be made sacred (consecrated); to be set apart and dedicated to serve God; to be endowed with enabling gifts and grace; to be divinely designated, inaugurated, or chosen for some purpose.”

Meaning Of Anointing Oil In The Bible

The words “anointed” and “anointing” appear often in the Bible.

Mark 6:13 “And they cast out many devils, and anointed with oil many that were sick, and healed them.”

Hebrews 1:9 “Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.”

Anointing Oils

There are many different kinds of anointing oils in Nevada, and which is used is usually determined by the church, temple or synagogue that is performing the ceremony or invocation. The first anointing oil in the Bible was found in Exodus, when the Lord ordered Moses to make a holy anointing oil of the finest spices, including flowing myrrh, sweet-smelling cinnamon, fragrant cane, cassia and olive oil. This oil was used by the priests in the temple. Today anointing oils are made of similar ingredients; one recipe calls for an oil to be made of olive oil, salt, sugar, allspice seeds, whole cloves, myrrh or frankincense.

How Anointing Oils are Used in Nevada

Oils are also used during burial, in preparing weapons for war and for their calming influences.

Meaning Of Anointing Oil In The Bible

The government of the church by the anointing. What a foreign thought to us today! That's because very early there was a major departure from the Scriptural way. And, loving status quo as we do, Christians everywhere feel that they are viewing the norm when they look at their particular way of doing things.

Well, God is merciful. Israel wanted a king, and God, after protesting, gave them one. Eventually this decision led to great men like David, Hezekiah and Josiah, far from lightweights in God's eyes. God has blessed our system too, and produced many "men of God" in spite of our fear of being humanly leaderless (which echoes Israel's fear.)

Scripture indicates that various forms of administration may be permissible. It seems to me that a huge anointing would be released to the people of God if the leadership of a local congregation were shared. If the elders would take their place. If the gifts of the Spirit were taught, sought, and encouraged.

While I'm speaking of "the anointing", let me say a word about "touching God's anointed". This is a Biblical phrase that originated from the mouth of God in reference to His chosen people Israel. As to "the anointing" itself, in the Old Testament a whole host of things was said to be anointed: the tabernacle, all its furniture, the priests, all the priests' clothing, etc. For, far from being a holy word in itself, to "anoint" merely means to rub with oil.

Of course we Christians understand that oil is a symbol of the Holy Spirit. And in the Greek word "crio" from which we derive the word "Christ", we understand the Holy Spirit's purpose is to rub us all with Himself through the man Jesus.

Did you know that after Christ came into the world, that is, in all the New Testament writings, no other individual is called anointed again? The church, yes. "Special" members of the church? No!

II Corinthians 1:21, God has anointed US in Christ.

I John 2:27, you (plural) have an anointing. That anointing teaches you everything...

The deceiver can't deceive us, because when a teacher teaches, the anointing tells us whether he is teaching the truth. A true teacher can only confirm what we already know in Christ.

So let's be careful of singling certain people out, saying "Wow! What an anointing!" The anointing is in Jesus, Jesus is in YOU! And the same Spirit in you, God will release in abundance to His Church when they recognize without hypocrisy the headship of Jesus.

Yes, there is only one "Anointed One" we need to worry about touching today. His name is Jesus, but He lives in all those who are His. Don't touch God's anointed.

No man has a monopoly on that anointing. Never is submission to one man mentioned in the New Testament. This one-man thing was created by human tradition and sustained by strong men. Since God did not ordain such, I cannot recognize the preeminence of one man in the congregation, though I might recognize his position in Christ and respect him as a brother.

Paul tells me that the head of every man is Christ. Does that relationship stop when I leave my home, the context of which Paul speaks, and enter the assembly of the believers? Absolutely not! Christ is still my head, and I filter all commands and directives and teachings through that Lordship of Christ. I do NOT suddenly turn Christ off so I can turn a mere man on.

There must indeed be leadership in the church. The leaders are a group of men submerged in the Holy Ghost, who call others to obey Jesus, not themselves. They are men who are laying their lives down for the flock, not beating it. They are near-invisible men who are most honored by all.

God has already shown His people that His system of plural leadership works. It's recorded. Recorded also is the sad history of churches totally controlled by the "clergy", a group separate and apart from the "laity." In these churches is often great pain. It is the pain of a wife who has been ridiculed, or ignored, or abused in some other way.

When wives sense that the marriage relationship is not being honored properly, reactions can be violent. That violence can be suppressed by the husband with anger and demands for obedience and questioning of loyalty, or...silenced with an understanding hug.

The church, with all its faults, seems to be awaiting a hug. Submission is much easier after the leaders make the people realize they truly understand, and that they are one with us, not "a cut above."

Suppressed Christians who have gifts from God are liable to be looking for other fellowships where their gift can be expressed. When all the "gifted"ones go, the "remnant" is a group fiercely loyal to a man. Very little fruit can be produced in a situation like this, yet this scene is repeated throughout our land.

How can you tell if your church is controlled by a dictatorial clergy-laity philosophy? A former pastor of the Philadelphia Church in Chicago has come up with a description of the dictator spirit.

1. attitude of lording (as opposed to leading)

2. gains "dominion" over people's lives

3. strong-willed and unyielding (instead of gentle, open-minded)

4. spreads "awe" or fear of himself among the people

5. non-submissive to other leadership

6. overconfidence in himself

7. looks for private "words" to direct flock, ignores Spirit in other leaders

8. makes major decisions without seeking and hearing counsel

9. uses elders as "sounding board" to make up his mind, rather than seeking the mind of God through the collective leadership

10. forces final decisions before the answer is generally clear

11. requires weakness under him. must be "man on top"

12. intimidates others, suppresses body ministry

13. over-disciplinarian tendencies, instead of love and patience

Godly leadership is the most difficult place of all in the Body, contrary to the perceived notion. A true leader is first in line for the executioner's sword.

What Is The Purpose Of Anointing Oil In The Bible

When the Scriptures are translated into English some of the nuances of language gets lost. That is the case with the word "anointing." The word 'anoint' in Hebrew is mãsah and it properly means "to rub or stroke with the hand" (Lev. 2:4). Literally, they would rub or smear the head or body with oil.

The objects of worship however were anointed by "sprinkling" nzh (Lev. 8:11).  And the high priest was anointed at his installation by pouring, yãsaq, the holy oil on his head (Lev. 8:12). The effects of all this anointing was to make them holy-to consecrate to the Lord. But it also confers on the recipient a particular character, the quality of 'being holy' that could be transmitted to others through contact. It created a special intimate relationship between the person and God. To be thus anointed with oil was a sign of great favor-of blessing and grace in both the individual and the people's lives. Moses was directed to anoint Aaron and his sons as a sign that they had been set apart in God's service. They were washed, and specially arraigned with sacred vestments of finest linen that were made with purple, blue and gold threads. And before all the people, they were anointed with God's holy oil, ordained and consecrated as God's chosen priests.

Anointing for the Kings Was a Very Significant Ritual for the Whole People of God

Literally, the oil was poured liberally over the king's head so that it ran down his beard and permeated his clothes. When the king passed by-you would smell him coming! The royal unction conferred a special character on the king as "Yahweh's Anointed." To curse Yahweh's Anointed merited death just as cursing God did. By his anointing the king received the spirit of Yahweh to enable him to fulfill the duties of his office. In actuality, the king was only Yahweh's representative and the anointing designated the king as Yahweh's vessel whose relationship with the deity was governed by the covenant. The anointing created an intimate relationship with God and brought the recipient into the divine sphere of holiness. The king became closely approximated to God. Since all life derives from the divine breath, so the king is the "breath of life" to his people. So this anointing was not just a ritual-it preserved the breath of life from illness and harm.

It is interesting to note that the Hebrew word mãsah is also the root of the term "Messiah." The New Testament was not written in Hebrew but in Greek. In Greek, the term that was used to refer to Jesus was "Kristos," or "Christ," which means "the anointed one."

How Was Anointing Oil Made In The Bible

As the holidays near, it is important to remind ourselves of what we are really celebrating. Christmas day is symbolically the birthday of Jesus Christ, who according to the Christian Faith, died for our sins to be forgiven. Jesus is an important figure today regardless of what faith you may follow. However, aside from his crucifixion, many don't know much about the meaning of word "Christ."

In order to know the origin of a word, it is important to study its etymology and gradual cultural changes in meaning and pronunciation. For example, the word "dis" is shortened slang for disrespect. I've even seen news reporters now using the word. However, if someone simply heard the word without knowing it was short for disrespect then they would have a difficult time making sense of the slang. First, we must remind ourselves that Jesus Christ was not actually his name or surname. Christ is actually a title. So it should be rendered as "Jesus the Christ" similar to "Obama the President" or its reciprocal which was actually commonly used historically as "Christ Jesus;" the same way as you might say "President Obama" or "Dr. King."

Let us also be reminded that none of these biblical figures actually spoke English. Jesus spoke Aramaic, a Semitic language belonging to the Afroasiatic language family, which includes about 375 living languages from Africa to the Middle East. The Semitic language is a subset and includes the Canaanite languages of Hebrew, Phoenician and Arabic. The word Christ in its original context doesn't directly have anything to do with "Savior." Christ most directly comes from the Greek word "Khristos" or in Latin "Christus" which both essentially mean, "covered in oil." In the Septuagint, the early version of the Hebrew Bible, Khristos replaced the word Messiah, which means, "anointed." In the Hebrew rituals followers were anointed with holy oil. Some also believe that the word "Christ" most directly comes from Kemet/Egypt from the word "Karast" or "Krst" which was an anointing oil used during the process of mummification. But it is my assertion that even the Egyptians were influenced by another culture which I shall elaborate on.

Some may stop here and be satisfied with this explanation for the word Christ. But let's ask ourselves, if Jesus had the title "Christ," supposedly as a honorific title of distinction to separate himself from ordinary mankind, then how is it the word existed prior to him? If he were meant to carry a special designation that the rest of humanity is unable to obtain shouldn't there have been another word created after his birth or death to signify him as an exception? Clearly there must have been others given the title of Christ before him in order for the word to even have existed. For example, if an alien landed on our planet and had never seen water before chances are they wouldn't have a word for it. They would have to either adopt our word for it or make up their own. And yet because we do have water we have many ways to not only describe it in its many forms but to even describe how it flows as witnessed on any garden hose nozzle - "mist, spray, shower, jet, stream, soak" etc but it is difficult to see how you get the word "Khristos" from the word "Messiah."

To get the answer we must dig a little deeper into the etymology of these words. The word messiah also comes rendered in several other versions such as mashiah, moshiah, mashiach, or moshiach, which literally means "anointed one." Hamashiach means "king anointed." They were terms used in the Hebrew Bible to describe priests and kings who were traditionally anointed with the holy anointing oil as described in Exodus 30:22-25. Cyrus the Great, king of Persia, as another example, although not a Hebrew, is referred to as "God's anointed" (Messiah) in the Bible. From the word "Masiah" we derive various words such as "Sah" which means "radiant." And also "Ah" means "fire pot." The word "Hat" means "shining ones" and "Isseh" means "offering made by fire."

The word Chrism, mostly used by early Christian Gnostics & Catholic Romans, also means "holy oil." The word Gnostic comes from the word Gnosis which means "knowledge," but in particular a mystic knowledge that comes from within. Many of the Gnostic texts say that in order to be called worthy of the title 'Christian' one must also be anointed with Holy oil and that the water baptism alone is incomplete. From the book "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" author Mary Baker Eddy writes "The invisible Christ was imperceptible to the so-called personal senses, whereas Jesus appeared as a bodily existence. This dual personality of the unseen and the seen, the spiritual and material, the eternal Christ and the corporeal Jesus manifest in flesh, continued until the Master's ascension, when the human, material concept, or Jesus, disappeared, while the spiritual self, or Christ, continues to exist in the eternal order of divine Science, taking away the sins of the world, as the Christ has always done, even before the human Jesus was incarnate to mortal eyes."

Thus the Chrism is the holy oil and the Messiah was one who was anointed with the oil. Now if we go back to the Bible, we know from Luke 3:16 and Matthew 3:11 that John the Baptist stated "saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire:" Now we should be asking ourselves what does all this anointing, holy oil, fire, water, messiah & chrism have to do with each other and what is its spiritual significance? As with most ceremonies the rites are typically symbolic of something. But where did this anointing ritual originate? Did the Hebrews just make it up? Well, I'm glad you asked...

The answer lies much further away, in the East, in the lands of India influenced by the Vedic culture. The Vedas are the oldest Holy Scriptures to be discovered to this day. You may have heard of the "Aryans" which means "Noble." The present day word for "Iran" comes from this root. This is the same word that the Germans used during the holocaust to try and distinguish the "Aryans/Arians" as supposedly a superior or pure race of beings. You may have also heard of an "Aryan invasion" which supposedly was by Westerners who moved eastward into the Harrapan areas, but there are many who will attest this never happened and in fact the Vedic followers moved westward influencing all areas in between. Essentially all evidence supports the idea that the word "Aryan" originated in the East. This is fairly consistent with the story of Abraham, spiritual personage favored by God, who traveled from the East to new lands promised to him in Canaan.

The Vedas, according to legend were written thousands of years ago in the language known as Sanskrit. The Sanskrit word véda "knowledge, wisdom" is derived from the root vid - "to know." This is reconstructed as being derived from the Proto-Indo-European or Proto-Indo-Aryan root *ueid-, meaning "see" or "know." According to this same legend, before they were ever written down on palm leaves they were passed from one person to another orally, completely from memory. That may be heard to believe considering the Vedas are some of the longest written texts known. These early individuals were supposedly unlike the modern man of today. They were known as rishis (seers) who are supposed to be "liberated souls." In essence, they are divine personages free from karmic sin, apparently with perfect memories able to retain incredible amounts of information, who manifest on Earth simply to serve as ideal human models for the inspiration of mankind.

Anointing Oil In The Bible

The Gospels tell us that the apostles and the disciples were sent out to various towns and villages to lay-on hands and anoint the people, curing all of their illnesses. Now he told them not to bother with those who did not accept their message or who resisted them. Obviously, those people missed an opportunity for their own physical and spiritual healing. Go, he said to those who accept and welcome you. You can help them. There's an important lessen in this for all of us who believe that many blessings can be bestowed through the gift of essential oils.

"Then Jesus summoned his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to cure every disease and every sickness... [Then he sent them out] Cure the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons... Whatever town or village you enter, find out who in it is worthy, and stay there until you leave. As you enter the house, greet it. If the house is worthy, let your peace come upon it; if it is not worthy, let your peace return to you. If anyone will not welcome you or listen to your words, shake off the dust from your feet as you leave that house or town." Matt. 10:1,8,11-14.

The scriptures do not tell us how successful their efforts were but we can guess they were highly successful due to the popularity of Jesus' ministry. One might only guess why Jesus sent the disciples out without him. Was it for a little hands-on experience? To boost their courage? To see what they could do without him? Regardless of the reasons, the disciples came back full of positive energy and regard for the work. They did not doubt in the power of God and when their efforts were not successful, they did not cease their efforts.

So Are We as Christians Meant to Anoint Others for Healing with Essential Oils Today?

Absolutely-that was Jesus' directive to his disciples. Nowhere in the scriptures does it say only the initial disciples were to heal with these precious oils-they were suppose to teach the next generations. Neither do we find in the scriptures any indication that only the "guys" were sent out to heal and anoint-Jesus sent the disciples out and among the disciples were many women. Rules regarding who could anoint came much later in our history and have stuck to this very day.

Use Of Anointing Oil In The Bible

God did give Moses a formula for a holy anointing oil shortly after the Israelites began the Exodus trek through the desert. It contained four essential oils known for their healing abilities in an olive oil base. Why do you think God chose these particular oils? What are their healing properties? Read on.

o Myrrh 500 shekels

o Cinnamon 500 shekels

o Cassia 250 shekels

o Calamus 250 shekels

o Olive oil 1 hin

A shekel is about 12 grams or approximately a half an ounce. A "hin" was about a half a quart (16 ounces). In I Chronicles 9:30, responsibility for mixing and maintaining a supply of this holy blend went to the priestly caste-the Levites who were the descendants of Aaron. In Ecclesiasticus 38:4,8, they are referred to as "apothecaries," "pharmacists," or "perfumers" depending on your Bible translation.

"The Lord created medicines out of the earth, and the sensible will not despise them.. the pharmacist makes a mixture from them." Eccles 38, 4,8.

This holy anointing oil was a specific blend for anointing the dwelling, furniture and all those who dwelt in the home. The act of anointing thus rendered the home and its occupants holy which meant they were "set apart for God." In a sense, God put his seal upon the people with this special oil. Many today believe that Moses used this aromatic blend to protect the Israelites from a plague.

What meaning does this have for us today? First of all, it is great news. We are being visited by modern day "plagues" such as SARS, MRSA, and many viruses that have actually been around on the earth since Biblical times. Essential oils are a key to protecting ourselves against these deadly diseases. If you study the chemical compounds found in myrrh, cinnamon, cassia, and calamus you find that according to modern science, these oils contain either immune-stimulating or antiviral compounds or both. If that is the case, then no home should be without these medicinal therapeutic grade essential oils.
